Catechumen recieved at Pascha. Christopher Edwards was made a catechumen at the Liturgy on the 1st Sunday of Great Lent and was received into Holy Orthodoxy at 22:45 on the evening of Pascha. Olga, his wife  renewed her commitment to the Orthodox Faith along side him at the same time. Please pray for  the newly illumined Christopher and for Olga his wife and Ludmila Ward his sponsor.

Matushka Elizabeth was really moved by the kindness of the congregation. Svetlana and Klaudia came across on the day of Matuschka's birthday with flowers, cards and a most generous present of a voucher for the Liverpool Philharmonic. Thank you.

The Sunday of the Veneration of the Cross

On the Sunday of the Veneration of the Cross we blessed a new lcon in memory of the Handmaiden of God Alina who died last Summer.   She was in the Royal Infirmary gravely ill and called for a priest. She bore her illness very bravely and reconfirmed her Orthodox Faith. Aidan, Klaudia and Father Paul all visited her regularly. Her funeral was in St Elisabeth's last year. Her mother, Tamara, sent this beautiful icon of the Exaltation of the Precious and Life-Creating Cross from Belarus which was blessed before the Liturgy. We will remember Alina every time we venerate this icon and her mother and brother Alexei and partner Mark.

Maria Boschmann visits the parish

Matushka Elizabeth and Father Paul have enjoyed having Maria Boschmann with us for a few weeks. Maria is the daughter of one of our priests, Father Alexander, in the parish of St Nicholas in Stuttgart. Vladika Mark asked us if we could host her. She came to improve her English (which is better than Father Paul's!) and to experience time in Father Paul's school in Chester. We visited Victoria Hyland and her family in North Wales as the families have mutual friends in Stuttgart.

At the same time, Father Patrick Ramsey visited on his way to Northern Ireland. He will assist at the parish of St John of Shanghai in Belfast. Matushka Elizabeth and Father Paul took them both to the Shrine of St Winefride in Holywell.

Father Paul and Matushka Elizabeth thank you for all your presents and good wishes for Christmas. We had about 100 people in Church on Saturday 7th January. It was a really lovely day. Thank you to those who worked so hard to prepare the church, those who sang and those who served and of course, all those who brought lovely food to eat.

Fr Paul was interviewed by Radio Merseyside for Christmas. You can hear this interview by clicking here. It was broadcast on the 8th January and is still available on the BBC Radio Merseyside Website. At the end of the interview you can hear Matushka and Martin singing one of the chants of Christmas. There is a note on BBC Radio Merseyside Twitter Account at https://twitter.com/bbcmerseyside

If you did not manage to get to church for Christmas you can hear the whole service by following this link.

The Metropolitan's Visit

His Eminence Metropolitan Hilarion arrives in Liverpool at 15:21 on Saturday 21st January. Some parishioners have already said that they will meet him at the Station. He is then being interviewed by BBC Radio Merseyside for a broadcast the next morning.

On Sunday 22nd January he is serving in our church. We will be greeting Vladika at 10:00 and then vesting him in the centre of the Church before the Hierarchal Liturgy.** He will be accompanied by Protodeacon Denis Lvov. Reader Chad will be ordained Subdeacon in the 6th Hour. There will be a contribution lunch afterwards up at church. The church will be prepared for his visit on the afternoon of Theophany on Thursday the 19th January. Please help if you can.

Please make sure that you attend on the 22nd and let others know as well. This is a wonderful opportunity for you to meet Metropolitan Hilarion and to welcome him properly to the UK. It is also the first time that we have ever had a Hierarchal Liturgy in the parish on a Sunday. The Hierarchal Liturgy expresses the fulness of the Orthodox Church and is most beautiful.

There will be tea at Fr Paul's house at 17:00 followed by vespers in Little St Elisabeth's. . Vladika is tonsuring Sr Margaret from St Bride's Hermitage, Edinburgh on Monday at 09:00 followed by Breakfast.

**Please note that Fr Paul and Fr Thomas will be unable to hear confessions after 09:58 so tell EVERYONE to arrive early. There will no opportunity to hear confessions after the Metropolitan has arrived. At least one priest will be able to hear confessions from 08:45. The church will be open at 08:15.
